I am stage IIIc3. I hope that any potential patients will ask their doctors to specify the risks of treatment to them. Mine avoided telling me about lymphedema and sexual dysfunction. Since the majority of patients with pelvic radiation suffer sexual dysfunction, this seems like an abdication of the doctor’s responsibility to be honest about potential risks with patients, i.e., informed consent. I know now that lymphedema, which is life altering, is a common occurence following surgery with lymphadenectomy (the removal of all available pelvic lymph nodes) and pelvic radiation. Comments
