Loving Life

by: Sarah Erwin on Thu, May 15 2008

I was dagnosed with Carcinoid Adenoma of the lung in 1992 a the age of 44. It has been 16 years this July since the removal of my left lung. Due to a skilled Thoracic Surgeon at Emory Universtiy and diagnosis of the tumor before it grew completely through the bronchial tube to invade other tissues, I was a blessed patient.

I have survived with little complications from the cancer and no required treatments. Looking back I realize how close I came to being a statistic of cancer death. Medicine has improved so much since then that many more cancer patients with faster more aggressive cancers now survive much longer. I am grateful for the years I have experienced with my wonderful husband, 4 children and now 8 grandchildren I possibly may never have seen. Also these years have provided the opportutunity to continue in may career. Life is short no matter how long we live, but having these “extra years” I call them have been a true blessing.
