prostatecancer

by: k.Spencer on Wed, Jul 16 2008

I for a very long time felt that one day I would develop prostae cancer. This belief was fuelled by the fact that in my early forties my PSA test showed a reading of3
I regularly aeked my doctr to digitally check my prostae and on every occasion hedid he told me that it was fine and he would make the appropriate notation on my medical card.

In 2005 at age 67 I was admitted to hospital with very high blod preesure. The doctors did a complete blood examination and my PSA retuned a reading of 11.
Iwas told by my new specialist that I should seek medical atteton preferably from a urologist
I did and he dida biopsy and the test result was positive for prostate cancer

When I went back to my family doctor who had been doing all of these digital examinations over the years he expressed shock after I told him what the reading was.

He then proceeded to amend my medical report card to state that my prostate was hard and not soft as he had been previosly misleading me.

About a year after I did radiation therapy which was completed in Marh 2008. When i was doing the therapy I passed blood in my urine and my stool however all test for urine in my stool and urine came back negative.

Recently I have noticed some streaks of blood in my stool and I am extremely worried because i am now seventy years old and i know that I am ata very high risk for developing colon cancer

I am going to see my doctor but what I really want your readers to know is that the safest way for one to detect prostate cancer is only one way as far as I am concerned and that is the PSA tes.

Everyone was on my case to get a physical. I was 50 at the time and it had been 10 years since my last physical. I guess when you feel good and have a fairly active life with no medical problems you don’t think about getting a physical because lets face it, guys just don’t like going to the Doctors to get a check up.
