Malignant Melanoma

by: Tara on Tue, Apr 01 2008

I was 25 years old and I had just gotten back from spending 4 months in Saudi Arabia with the United States Air Force. After a few months as I would try to sleep I had this really deep itch in my left inner thigh. I would rub it all night because it was so deep my fingernails wouldn’t help. Finally, I happened to think to look at it one morning and I noticed a mole It was really dark almost black, but nothing unusual.

Since I was in the military and it was free I decided to have it checked out. I went in and the doctor said it didn’t look like it would be cancerous, but since I came in he would biopsy it and send it to the lab.

Two months later, he called me into his office and told me that I had malignant melanoma on my leg. He was as shocked as I was.

I went to a dermatologist and he said that I caught it very quickly and they were able to cut it out and I would be fine.

I still go to the dermatologist every 6 months to have all my moles checked, and I will do that for the rest of my life.
